The End of an Era!
Our heartfelt thanks to Dundalk
for 63 wonderful years.
To our Poplar Inn family, friends and neighbors,
The Poplar Inn has been a Dundalk landmark for over half a century, purchased in 1953 by Antonio “Tony” Chalcoussis and George Pappas, to be joined shortly after by Theodore “Pop” Sourias.
Ownership at The Poplar Inn has always been a family affair. When “Pop” retired in 1960, his daughter Helen and her husband Stefanos Tsapalas joined the business. As the responsibility has been taken on by the third generation of our family, we have stayed true to our original philosophy of maintaining an atmosphere where good food is served and our customers and employees feel at home.
Over the years we have never forgotten that The Poplar Inn is not just ours – it also belongs to our customers. This has been a place where old friends come to meet, and new ones are always welcome.
We want to thank our customers for their loyal patronage and our staff for their hard work and dedication over the years. It has been our family’s honor to serve such a wonderful community for the last 63 years. We are blessed to have been a part of your lives during birthdays, anniversaries, baby showers, life celebrations, family meals and to cheer on our O’s and Ravens (and Colts). This honor has spanned four generations and 27 family members; we could not have made to it this point without every one of us giving their heart and soul to this family business. As we reflect on the past years, we will cherish the time spent and the good memories that will always live within each of us.
As of October 3, 2016 our family will no longer be the owners of our beloved Poplar Inn. As we hand the reins to another family to serve the community, we trust that they will continue the tradition started back in 1953, as they guide The Poplar Inn into its next chapter.
With much gratitude and love to you all,
Audrey, Sylvia, Helen, Tessie and their families

...The Poplar Inn opened with the simple goal of providing a warm, friendly restaurant that serves great food at affordable prices — and we've been doing business that way ever since. Today the Poplar Inn is still one of Eastern Baltimore's favorite family restaurants. Our menu features our famous Crabby Wings®, all-American classics as well as a few ethnic specialties from our family's recipes.
We also have an adjoining bar with live music every Friday and Saturday night, and room for catering your party or private gathering. Look around our website to see what's going on, and be sure stop by and visit us soon!

Here's what our customers have to say!
We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of two members of The Poplar Inn family, Dee Biedenback and her boyfriend, Rick O'Hare.
Dee worked for The Poplar Inn for 16 years. She was an incredible organizer, crafter, decorator and Ravens fan. She was very giving. She would buy Christmas gifts for all our employees even if they only worked here a week.
Rick worked for The Poplar Inn one day a week but his devotion to the Poplar Inn was boundless just like Dee's.
They had been together over 16 years. Our heart goes out to their families.
We are also saddened by the passing of Carleen James, our dear friend and a loyal employee for over 53 years. Please use click here to share your memories of her.
